Hi,
I’m driving a 92′ Taurus 3.0 and few months ago the RPM (when in idling)
started to fluctuate, only when in Parking or Natural. It also happens
when I
start the car when the engine is warm, it can not stabilize and
fluctuate all
the time. I went to the shop and in the beginning he advised me to start
using
Exxon supreme gas, then he replaced some electrical part which didn’t
help as
well. He took the car to a nearest Ford dealer who advised him to change
another electrical connector (which goes from somewhere to the air
filter
mount) – didn’t help. He also went through all the vacuum hoses and
didn’t
find anything. This problem drives me crazy. No one seems to know what’s
going
on but this is ridiculous. It is 99.9% electrical problem. Sometimes I
can
shift from Drive to Parking after driving, and let the engine run for 10
minutes and it runs like new, and in another occasions, even rolling
down the
hill (in Drive of course…), when my foot is off the accelerator or the
brake
pedal – fluctuating again.
Any idea what it is ???
Thank you in advance

You have to check your sensors on the computer, especially the throttle
position sensor

High mileage? maybe a inj cleaner might help, also have you had
the car up on a scan tool? the car’s computer might help find
the real problem. Do it yourself and save the $50/hr labor.
(EQUUS ford Scanner tool – $28 CDN at hardware/automotive shop)
It could also be just the idle control valve (electro-mechanical)
which controls your idle. check first – they’re expensive.
